3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • know the basic contents and properties of glass;
  • know different types and functions of glass products;
  • know principal glass materials and their properties;
  • choose the right materials for metallurgical glass forming and to evaluate their properties;
  • know the process of glass melting, glass forming methods, the process of cooling and finishing operations;
  • know different types of glass furnaces and basic principles of their operation;
  • know in theory the basics of the processes and technological procedures of different methods of glass processing;
  • make glass moulds and to know traditional and modern glass forming techniques;
  • know how different equipment, machines, tools and aids work and how to use them;
  • create designs for batch and custom-made production;
  • realise simple as well as highly sophisticated art designs using relevant techniques;
  • prepare and work with technical documentation;
  • use applicable software in creating art designs and technical documentation;
  • act professionally with customers and work and business partners.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can work as a glass designer or maker in design workshops or studios operating in metallurgic glass forming or by himself/herself. The graduate can also work as a workshop manager in technical preparation of production.
Examples of possible jobs: designer, artist and maker of sophisticated products.
