3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be familiar with various methods of learning, use sources of information well, show functional literacy;
  • understand assignments or identify the cores of problems, exert variable solutions, work both independently and within a team;
  • communicate in one foreign language at the level of at least B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; 
  • cope with changing socio-economic conditions, be financially literate;
  • be aware of the labour market mechanisms, and of the employee-employer relationships, act on career decisions responsibly, understand the significance of lifelong learning;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed in daily situations;
  • work with the means of information and communication technologies, exploit adequate sources of information, handle information effectively;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • support values of local, national, European and world cultures, recognize the value of life;
  • exert fundamentals of health protection, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety;
  • exert norms and prescriptions in the field.

Vocational competences:

  • use knowledge of the history of visual culture and historical development of art and craft in the field of specialization;
  • comply with the ethical code and applicable legislation regarding heritage preservation when providing the restoration;
  • carry out restoration research of artwork using relevant methods, based on the evaluation of the research determine a suitable technological process of restoration;
  • master the technological processes and techniques of restoration and preservation;
  • defend the selected procedure of restoration work, document them continuously and evaluate the quality of results of partial work operations;
  • have a comprehensive overview of the types of renovation and conservation materials and their suitable combinations, assess their properties and decide on their choice upon the results of a comprehensive restoration research and in terms of interpretation of the restored object;
  • choose the appropriate procedure and methods of renovation and conservation intervention, with respect to the nature and historical value of the subject;
  • carry out the work carefully and responsibly keeping in mind the irreversibility of interventions;
  • monitor the development of new renovation and conservation technologies, techniques and materials, and apply them;
  • seek actively all available sources of information about current approaches to the restoration of cultural heritage and apply them within the specialization;
  • present the work appropriately; master principles of professional behaviour;
  • know the requirements for developing restoration documentation;
  • have a good command of the basic economic activities with regards to the expected professional life.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate is employed as the restorer of cultural monuments or their parts having the character of artistic works. Under current legislation, the restoration work is carried on the basis of permission for the restoration of cultural monuments, granted by the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry grant the permission for the specialization of the restoration work. The field of specialization arises from the specialisation described in the school curriculum and from the demonstration of vocational competences.
According to the vocational training, the graduate can find employment in the field of stone sculpturing or book culture, as well as manager of museum collections, archives and galleries.
Examples of possible jobs: the restorer non-figural non-polychrome handicraft works made of stone, stucco, artificial stone and plaster, or as restorer of handicraft works made from marble imitation, from paper and parchment – bookbinding, paper and parchment documents including wax seals and bullae, manuscripts and rare books, paper procedural and business material, maps, plans, prints and objects of museum character of various materials related to the bookbinding.
