3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • have a command of the professional terminology from the field of ecology and environmental protection;
  • monitor and evaluate changes in the environment, prevent negative effects and changes;
  • take samples from natural components for analysis and determine their basic characteristics;
  • know about natural resources and their use, toxic substances and their effects, waste management;
  • be familiar with the laws and regulations on nature protection and use them in practice;
  • identify selected organisms and inanimate components of nature;
  • know the procedures of cultivating forests and the corresponding breeding and renewal steps depending on the tree species, habitat and forest category;
  • have a grasp of planning and methods of forest mensuration with respect to all forest functions;
  • know the specific management methods in protected and special purpose forests;
  • find one’s way in a forest terrain using a map, work with height meters, callipers, have a grasp of mensurational tables;
  • have a grasp of the important basic and specific principles of business in the profession, management and marketing procedures in market economy enterprises;
  • work with information in the area of ecology and environmental protection;
  • update ones knowledge, skills and information about the overall state of the environment;
  • carry out educational activities in the profession.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work in middle management positions in the area of nature and environmental protection, in work activities associated with state administration, in the sphere of manufacturing and services, in educational and information activities.
Examples of possible jobs: meteorologist, hydrologist, water protection inspector, nature and landscape protection inspector, forest conservation inspector, waste management inspector, air protection inspector.
