3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language;
  • effectively organize and manage and participate in a team, including the ability to lead a team and cope with problematic situations;
  • know how to use information and ICT, have basic ICT skills;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • read technical drawings, standards, diagrams, work instructions and other technical documentation;
  • know professional engineering terminology and use general information, terms, rules and principles in solving practical tasks;
  • distinguish, classify and label engineering materials and know the function tests of metallurgical semi-products and products;
  • know the basic methods of hand metal treatment and metal tooling and perform basic assembly works;
  • set and operate metallurgical equipment for metal production and metallurgical processing;
  • make test samples of melted metals and measure the temperature;
  • melt iron in melting aggregates and finish them in the plant of secondary metallurgy;
  • check the measurements of rolled products and classify such products;
  • correct surface defects of metallurgical products;
  • handle activities in the metallurgical production and treatment of iron and steel;
  • set and operate shaping machines in the production of metallurgical products;
  • operate and set equipment in the preparation plants of metallurgical products;
  • utilise lifting and handling equipment in transferring metallurgical semi-products;
  • cooperate in the preparation of a charge, at the scrap yard and agglomeration;
  • regularly maintain and help to repair metallurgical equipment and effectively cooperate with operation workers.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can be employed as a metallurgist (metallurgist-blast-furnace operator, metallurgist-steel worker, metallurgist of nonferrous metal), melter, powder metallurgist, rolling-mill worker, metal drawer. After having obtained necessary work experience, the graduate can start a private business in the given field.
Examples of possible jobs: metallurgist, press operator, powder metallurgist, melter, metal drawer, rolling-mill worker.
