3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language;
  • effectively organize and manage and participate in a team, including the ability to lead a team and cope with problematic situations;
  • know how to use information and ICT, have basic ICT skills;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • prepare the optimum conditions for the medium for growing the decorative plants in greenhouses or in the soil;
  • use the ways of technical fertilising, additional fertilising and applying the basic protective media against pests and diseases;
  • operate simple machines, work with tools and gardening mechanisation;
  • reproduce plants using generative and vegetative methods;
  • plant out the decorative material in the permanent site and attend to it;
  • carry out simple terrain measurements and make situational sketches;
  • lay and maintain grassed areas;
  • use the elements of modern plant affinities, tie and arrange them creating a floristic arrangement;
  • assess the quality and amount of one's work, keep primary records and the usual primary entries.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work as an employee that carries out specialised functions in the framework of a gardener in various branches (floristry, orchards or nursery management) primarily when reproducing decorative material, growing flowers, when establishing and maintaining orchard and landscape alterations, tying and arranging flowers.
Examples of possible jobs are as a florist, orchard owner, nursery worker, flower arranger (florist), worker in plant protection (conservationist). After acquiring the necessary work in the field he/she is ready to enter private enterprise in the given field.
