3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • carry out and organise working activities in animal husbandry;
  • organise the reproductive process in an agricultural enterprise, ascertain pregnancy, assist in natural birth and treat the animals and young afterwards;
  • check the adherence to animal hygiene conditions and ensure animal welfare during breeding;
  • take biological samples and carry out partial examinations;
  • take sperm, process it in a laboratory and prepare it for insemination;
  • assist a veterinarian during surgical and medicinal procedures;
  • treat sick and wounded animals under the supervision of a veterinarian;
  • secure disinfection, disinfestation and rat eradication;
  • carry out veterinary supervision and ensure the hygienic requirements when processing products of animal origin;
  • take samples and carry out the basic laboratory investigations of foodstuffs and raw materials of animal origin;
  • drive motorised vehicles from group B (passenger cars).
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work in middle management positions in a complex of veterinary technical activities. Veterinary assistants help veterinarians (under their supervision and responsibility) particularly when checking the upholding of the hygienic conditions in animal husbandry, in manufacturing and processing animal products, when carrying allergen-diagnostic tests, when examining slaughter animals and meat. The graduate can also work as a laboratory assistant or zootechnician in domesticated animal rearing, in breeding enterprises, in shelters for abandoned animals, in stations for endangered animals, in pet shops, breeding centres for exotic animals, in the area of marketing veterinary needs or as an independent entrepreneur.
Examples of possible jobs: veterinary technician, veterinary assistant, laboratory assistant, zootechnician, retailer of services for agriculture, independent entrepreneur, etc.
