3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • monitor the patients' state and physiological functions, record them in the documentation, take care of flushing out;
  • carry out comprehensive hygienic care, prevent bedsores;
  • distribute food to patients according to their diets and make sure they are upheld, make sure the drinking regime is adhered to;
  • ensure the application of heat and cold;
  • carry out rehabilitation treatment including preventing disorders due to immobility;
  • carry out self-help exercises to increase patients' independence;
  • take part in ensuring play activities for children;
  • take part in the receipt, checking, handling and storing of medicinal preparations;
  • take part in the receipt, checking, handling and storing of medicines and laundry;
  • administer medicinal preparations except for intravenous applications and epidural catheters and intramuscular injections for newborns and children up to 3 years of age;
  • take biological material, carry out tests on biological material taken in a non-invasive way and capillary blood using semi-quantitative methods (diagnostic strips);
  • apply and maintain oxygen therapy;
  • take part in treating acute and chronic wounds;
  • prepare patients for diagnostic or medicinal activities, provide nursing care during these activities and after them;
  • take part in activities connected with receiving, transferring, releasing and the death of patients.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work in health facilities of a ward and out-patient character and in home nursing care, as a health worker in social care facilities particularly in nursing homes for the long-term ill, in social care institutions, in social welfare institutions for those with health problems and geriatric care facilities.
