3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • know materials, aids, techniques and technology, and their development in the field of graphic print design;
  • be knowledgeable of developments in book culture and graphics
  • use basic graphic techniques including relief printing, engraved printing, and lithography, including the history of their development and possibilities of use;
  • use current graphic design techniques such as spray techniques;
  • know the rules for type-setting, different fonts and their development, master the technologies of classic type-setting;
  • know kinds of typographical arrangements for different types of printed materials, including proofs;
  • create source materials for pre-press print preparation;
  • manage the printing process and manufacturing technologies for polygraphic print processing;
  • be familiar with technology currently used in book-binding processes, including industrial book-binding, its history, work principles, and materials used ;
  • control the workflow associated with the graphic design of community printing, promotional printing, newspapers, magazines, and implement simple and complex formats;
  • create print designs for the polygraphic production of promotional, community and book materials
  • analyze a given task, apply creative approaches, and defend the chosen creative solution;
  • select suitable techniques, technological approaches, and corresponding material for graphic print design;
  • use graphic programs in preparing and implementing creative designs.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
Graduates are employed in middle management positions in the field of graphic print design, performing duties related to the conception, adaptation and implementation of printed materials.
Typical job positions: art editor for a newsroom or publishing house, designer and implementer in a graphic studio.
