3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • perform plumbing work, i.e., installation, repairs and maintenance of internal pipelines (including mains pipes), cold and hot water, sewerage, heating, gas, and air conditioning, including mounting garnitures, fixtures and furnishings and appliances in homes, as well as in civil and industrial buildings;
  • perform electroinstallation work, after the required period of on-the-job training and successfully completed examinations as stipulated in Regulation No. 50/1978 (in its currently-authorized version).This category includes installation, repairs, and maintenance of internal electrical circuits and installations including connections to current and repairs of electronic control devices and appliances in homes, as well as civil and industrial buildings;
  • handle the physical basics of electrical engineering and electronics, and apply them in practice, not only under laboratory conditions, but also on-site;
  • know the properties of electrical distribution systems and installations, connect various appliances, have an overview of their repair and maintenance needs;
  • use various measuring devices, understands the construction and function of individual devices and equipment, repair and maintain them, especially in the field of technical equipment in buildings;
  • know systems of technical equipment in buildings and their functions, perform basic calculations and implement technological and construction procedures including measuring and regulation of: sources of heat distribution, heating systems, water supplies, sewerage, gas installations, ventilation and air conditioning;
  • be well versed in the economic environment and labour relations and apply knowledge of economics in practice;
  • use computer technology for gaining information and make use of program applications created for this field;
  • work with established industry standards, technical regulations, and specialized technical literature;
  • know methods of technical imaging and illustrating of machinery and building plans;
  • be familiar with building plans and illustrate them according to the corresponding standards;
  • be well versed in machines and technology, and in power equipment in relation to the given field;
  • know materials (including their properties) used for the purposes of technical equipment in buildings;
  • produce documentation of the technical equipment of buildings with application of the appropriate technical standard specifications and regulations using current computer software.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can execute advanced blue-collar work in the building industry in the area of providing complete solutions in interior plumbing and electrical engineering networks in buildings. After gaining compulsory on-the-job training and other required qualifications (authorizations), he or she is eligible to go into business privately in related trades in the building industry.
Examples of possible employment opportunities include: plumber, electrician, electrical fitter, and mechanic of measuring and regulation equipment.
