3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • be familiar in the area of art history and the aesthetics of applied art, be familiar with current design trends;
  • have a command of constructional solutions to local heating units for solid fuel and know the main regulations for their construction;
  • know the properties of the materials used and make a suitable choice considering their use for a specific fireplace or oven;
  • determine the composition of the raw materials and prepare them, make analyses of the raw materials, tests of the products and glazes;
  • make moulds and models for all types of oven building products;
  • pour out and form into plaster moulds, prepare glazes, glazing, decorating oven-making products with various decorative techniques and firing;
  • have a command of and realise traditional and new technological procedures and techniques for building ovens and fireplaces, choose the most suitable procedure for realising the creative design, assess the quality of the work procedures;
  • independently realise the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of all the kinds of solid fuel local heating units used with a special focus on tiled stoves and fireplaces;
  • carry out simple tinsmith and construction work including walling chimneys in accord with the requirements of safe operation;
  • be familiar with the range of work tools, aids, instruments and machines, know how to use them for specific work procedures, know how to treat and store them;
  • precisely observe the set technological procedures when working with the material, respect the pertinent standards;
  • make designs of simple, more complicated and highly demanding stoves and fireplaces;
  • apply a technological, manufacturing and economic standpoint when realising a creative design, make complete design, technical and technological documentation.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work in middle management positions in the area of technical preparation and control of production, in work activities associated with realising the constructions of ovens and fireplaces including making original designs, reconstruction and maintenance of local heating units using solid fuel, primarily tiled stoves and fireplaces.
Examples of possible jobs: designer and builder of stoves and fireplaces, planning engineer, head of workshop, etc.
