3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • know the principle and functioning of machines, devices and equipment used in chemical laboratories and operations, know how to work with them and ensure their optimal functioning with respect to laboratory and technological requirements and minimal impact on the environment and the work environment;
  • know the principles, procedures and utilisation of chemical analysis methods, take and prepare samples for analyses, choose the best method of analysis, measure according to instructions and process and assess results;
  • apply knowledge of the physical and chemical basics of processes and operations in assessing the course of technological processes;
  • procure and manage parts of a chemical operation, check the course of operations and processes using suitable gauging techniques, perform substance and energy balances and prepare and assess operation records;
  • observe applicable standards, standard analysis procedures in laboratories and operations and technological discipline in chemical productions, work with technical and technological documentation and understand and observe legal regulations applicable to chemistry;
  • manage small work teams and organise work in chemical operations and laboratories;
  • apply knowledge of chemical technique and technology in different chemical and chemistry-oriented processing productions.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can hold middle management positions in chemistry, performing work activities related to support and management of technological processes in the chemical industry and different branches of the chemistry-oriented processing industry, in research and service organisations and laboratories specialising in water and waste water treatment, chemical and biochemical analyses, environment monitoring and sanitation inspections and in public and local administration departments corresponding with the field of education of the graduate.
Examples of possible jobs: chemical technician -technologist, operator, foreman, analyst.
