3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • cooperate with others in solving simple problems and situations; 
  • understand task assignments or identify the core of a problem, obtain the information needed to solve it, and propose a solution independently or under the guidance of others; 
  • express oneself clearly and independently in Czech, and justify one’s opinion;  
  • apply basic mathematical skills to solve simple practical tasks;  
  • work safely with digital technologies and their basic software;  
  • search for basic information in texts and other sources, understand task assignments, solve simpler problems, identify the information necessary for the solution;  
  • distinguish between different information systems and use them at the user level, enter data and search for and use them for one’s work;  
  • be prepared for lifelong learning and adapt to changing working conditions; 
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work;  
  • act economically and ecologically, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development;   
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection.  

Vocational competences:

  • understand technological processes and use technical terminology; 
  • read simple technical drawings and draw simple sketches of products or parts thereof; 
  • differentiate between different kinds of wood, construction timber and other materials used; 
  • identify wood defects and wood pests; 
  • use suitable materials and prepare them for further processing; 
  • perform work tied to the preparation and surface treatment of raw material; 
  • use suitable tools, instruments and simple machines in the production process; 
  • follow work proceedures in accordance with the technological procedure; 
  • process wood and wood-based materials manually and with machines; 
  • assemble finished products and parts; 
  • use suitable methods of storing, packing and handling of products; 
  • monitor the results of own work and the quality of finished products; 
  • follow the principles of the economical use of materials and the environmentally friendly disposal of waste. 

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

The graduate can find jobs in the field of professions related to wood processing and production, and depending on his or her specialization, in the area of woodworking, sawmill  or joinery production, especially the handling of material, intermediate products and products; basic work related to the manual or machine processing of wood; production and simpler assembly of furniture, industrial wood products, agglomerated products in construction joinery work, etc.
Examples of possible work positions: worker in woodworking, sawmill, or joinery production.
