3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective; 
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team; 
  • apply reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to evaluate texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at A2+ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);  
  • apply basic scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development;  
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and simple models;   
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions;  
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy;   
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;   
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;   
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection. 

Vocational competences:

  • decide on methods of repairing vehicle bodies and box bodies and select technological procedures for processing and joining parts; 
  • repair or manufacture vehicle bodies and box bodies; 
  • modify the surfaces of vehicle bodies and box bodies and apply primers or simple coating systems, apply and repair anti-corrosion and anti-vibration coatings, and apply (or bond) thermal and acoustic insulation; 
  • check the geometry of vehicle bodies and box bodies; 
  • modify the dimensions and shape of, fit together and join parts made of sheet metal, metal profiles and plastic components; 
  • apply filler to joined and repaired body parts and sand the filled surfaces; 
  • install, repair and maintain control and locking mechanisms of movable parts, adjust their position, glaze windows, and install additional equipment such as sunroofs, spoilers, etc.; 
  • manually process sheet metal and profiles, check their dimensions and shape, and select and use machines, tools, hand tools, portable power tools, measuring instruments and other work equipment for this purpose; 
  • measure and mark out sheet metal and determine the developed shapes of parts; 
  • calculate part dimensions and material consumption for their production; 
  • prepare auxiliary workshop drawings of parts of vehicle bodies and box bodies; 
  • distinguish between types of materials used in the construction of vehicle bodies and box bodies, know their mechanical and technological properties, and select suitable materials, semi-finished products, fasteners, auxiliary materials and substances for repairs; 
  • set up and operate basic types of sheet-metalworking machines, care for and maintain sheet-metalworking tools, implements and machines, and carry out minor repairs to them; 
  • be prepared to take an examination within the scope of the basic course in arc welding (with a consumable electrode in an active gas) and the basic course in plastics welding (using hot gas and filler material – with a manual and high-speed nozzle), and, where applicable, a training course for operating oxy-fuel welding equipment (for cutting and grooving with oxygen); 
  • be prepared to obtain a category B driving licence. 

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

The graduate can be employed in the field of repair and manufacture of vehicle bodies and box bodies and their mechanisms, installation of their accessories and equipment, adjustment of the positions of their movable parts, window glazing, minor repairs to body paintwork, and application of coatings to vehicle underbodies.  

Examples of possible job positions: automotive body mechanic.
