3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective; 
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team; 
  • apply reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to evaluate texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at A2+ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);  
  • apply basic scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development;  
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and simple models;   
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions;  
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy;   
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;   
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;   
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection. 

Vocational competences:

  • treat for individual categories of horses, monitor their growth and development; 
  • prepare feed for individual categories of horses, assess it using sensory evaluation, and store it appropriately; 
  • operate and care for the technical (breeding and training) equipment and stable machinery in the horse breeding, and maintain harness and saddle material; 
  • care for the health of horses, assess their health condition and recognise the symptoms and cause of common diseases and provide first aid, assist in veterinary surgeries and care for a horse following vet instructions,  
  • provide professional hoof care, assist in shoeing horses; 
  • identify different horse breeds and use them according to their suitability for various activities; 
  • ensure horse reproduction and rear foals with regard to their future use; 
  • complete the basic and special riders training use equipment and aids for horse riding and harness riding; 
  • perform basic and special training for horses working under saddle and in harness; 
  • prepare young horses for work under saddle and in harness, prepare the horse for testing performance; 
  • train horses for various disciplines and horse sports and other uses of horses; 
  • participate in competitions and races according to the specialization, follow the rules of riding bodies; 
  • keep breeding records and records associated with the use of horses for other purposes, and other current operating records; 
  • care for the working and living environment, respect the specificities of horse breeding in conditions of organic farming; 
  • have positive relationship and responsible attitude to animals, ensure animal welfare.

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

Graduates may find employment in primary agricultural production and agricultural services, as well as in forestry, recreational and hippotherapy riding, agritourism, enterprises using horse-drawn transport, and other operations focused on horse breeding and utilisation. Graduates may also work in sport or racing riding, horse breeding and foal rearing.
They are prepared for employment in riding schools, racing and sport stables, breeding facilities, and are also prepared for self-employment. Graduates may further their professional education towards more demanding positions such as instructors, trainers and managers of equestrian facilities.

Examples of possible job positions: rider, horse groom, horse breeder, coachman, equine-focused agritourism worker.
