3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
- master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective;
- understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team;
- apply reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to evaluate texts;
- communicate in one foreign language at least at A2+ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);
- apply basic scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life;
- work safely with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development;
- search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and simple models;
- understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions;
- be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy;
- adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;
- strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;
- observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection.
Vocational competences:
- rear freshwater fish in ponds, in fish culture facilities in a controlled environment, rear ornamental and aquarium fish;
- carry out basic physico-chemical analyses of water and assess the quality of the aquatic environment;
- take swabs of freshwater fish, rear the early stages of freshwater fish, work in various types of fish hatcheries;
- carry out feeding and supplementary feeding and calculate feed rations for fish;
- ascertain fish growth, assess their health, propose and realise preventive measures and medicament applications;
- distribute and sell fish, process freshwater fish in accordance with the applicable law;
- repair the nets used in fisheries, complete them and make small nets;
- carry out hatching, rearing, breeding and fattening of waterfowl;
- keep prescribed records in the breeding of fish and waterfowls;
- carry out remedial measures using mechanisation, liming and fertilising and determine the fertiliser doses on the basis of chemical analyses of the pond water;
- keep principles of application of the substances into the aquatic environment and contribute to maintaining the quality of surface and groundwater, protect rare, endangered and legally protected aquatic organisms;
- use machines and equipment for individual phases of the technological process of rearing fish and water fowl and when processing fish, catching fish using an electric generator;
- work with a chain saw and brush cutter, maintain and service the power tools used in fish breeding, maintain and repair operational equipment of ponds, storage ponds and breeding facilities;
- handle the technical equipment of water management constructions;
- drive motor vehicles of categories T (tractor) and B (passenger car) and perform their maintenance.
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE
Graduates may find employment in the field of fish primary production, perform production activities related to the nature of farming, hunting, processing and distribution of freshwater fish, aquarium and ornamental fish breeding and waterfowls. Also they can be employed in the management of watercourses and reservoirs, the water management organisations and in activities related to agriculture and forestry.
Examples of possible job positions: fisherman, fishpond cultivation, trout breeder, hatchery man, fish processor, waterfowl breeder, breeder of ornamental and aquarium fish.
