3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be familiar with various methods of learning, use sources of information well, show functional literacy;
  • understand assignments or identify the cores of problems, exert variable solutions, work both independently and within a team;
  • communicate in one foreign language at the level of at least B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; 
  • cope with changing socio-economic conditions, be financially literate;
  • be aware of the labour market mechanisms, and of the employee-employer relationships, act on career decisions responsibly, understand the significance of lifelong learning;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed in daily situations;
  • work with the means of information and communication technologies, exploit adequate sources of information, handle information effectively;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • support values of local, national, European and world cultures, recognize the value of life;
  • exert fundamentals of health protection, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety;
  • exert norms and prescriptions in the field.

Vocational competences:

  • apply knowledge of chemistry and other natural sciences when performing work in the cellulose and paper industry;
  • work with measuring and regulatory machines, equipment and apparatuses in laboratories and manufacturing operations, take and prepare a sample for analysis or test, choose a proper method, perform the measurement according to the instructions, process and evaluate the results;
  • apply the principles and procedures of classical analytical methods of chemical analysis and methods for testing paper and cardboard;
  • perform control analyses and tests in individual stages of cellulose and paper manufacture (raw materials, semi-finished products, products, by-products, waste) and propose precautions for keeping their demanded standard of quality;
  • apply knowledge of physicochemical phenomena, of basic operations and of the functions of the most important equipment when evaluating technological processes, monitor the operations and processes, perform substance and energetic reviews;
  • work with technical and technological documentation, manage partial stages of the manufacturing process, keep operational records and evaluate their findings; 
  • manage partial paper-making operations and laboratories, and perform business-entrepreneurial activities in paper-making companies.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduates may find work in various fields of the paper and pulp industry in the field of technological preparation and managing the manufacture of cellulose and paper, including their further processing, in chemical and operational laboratories, in research and development, in the field of waste management and in monitoring the  natural environment.
 
The graduates may find work in performing the job of paper mill technician in the positions of dispatcher, quality controller, head of production, standardizer, technical operations manager and technologist for ensuring the technical and technological sides of the production process, in managing the quality control system, in safekeeping the natural environment and in performing business-entrepreneurial activities.
