3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:
 
  • be well informed about culture, history and the present of the Czech nation within the European and world context;
  • formulate views and attitudes verbally and in writing, communicate in at least one other foreign language, use technical terminology;
  • educate themselves, work in an effective way and assess impartially results;
  • adapt themselves to the changing conditions of life and work, work well in a team and be responsible for assigned tasks;
  • work with information, use ICT;
  • use basic mathematics and the basic principles of physics and chemistry when needed;
  • know the present rights and duties of employers and employees and know how to conduct a job search;
  • act in an environmentally-conscious manner and in compliance with strategies for sustainability;
  • apply the fundamentals of health, occupational safety, and fire prevention and safety.

Vocational competences:

  • have general knowledge about standardisation;
  • explain the construction and development of the Earth's crust, life on the planet, the geology of each part of the CR in the context of the regional geology of the European continent and the world;
  • describe the genesis, occurrence and properties of minerals and rocks, the ways of identifying them;
  • carry out the basics of geodetic marking and surveying work for buildings, underground areas, stores etc;
  • use geological surveying techniques in all fields of applied geology;
  • know the basics of establishing constructions;
  • have basic knowledge about the applied use of information and communications technologies when dealing with tasks connected to the expertise of applied geology;
  • name the principles of economic thought and business and explain the fundamentals of basic economic terms and principles in a market economy;
  • have a command of the basic economic activities associated with business in the subject area including knowledge of the relevant legal norms;
  • have basic knowledge in the area of organising and managing large and small businesses.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
The graduate can find work in middle management positions in the area of applied geology, during work activities connected to finding mineral wealth, underground resources, when determining the geological relations during constructions, when protecting drinking water sources, in geophysics, in geodesy and local government.
Examples of possible jobs: geologist.
