3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective; 
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team; 
  • apply reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to evaluate texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at A2+ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);  
  • apply basic scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development;  
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and simple models;   
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions;  
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy;   
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;   
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;   
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection. 

Vocational competences:

  • read drawings and technical documentation, use of numerical and verbal information given on the plot, search for information in the standards, make sketches of finished pieces;  
  • select and use tools, fixture tools and workpieces, gauges and measuring equipment, auxiliary and labour equipment, according to a specific production process;  
  • check the size, shape and relative position of surfaces, surface quality of machined and tooled parts;  
  • distinguish between machinable materials in accordance with applicable standards and understand their properties in terms of machinability; 
  • clamp workpieces with respect to their shape and size, method of processing and requirements for dimensions, shape and positional tolerance; 
  • work semi-products and machined workpieces on machine tools or numerically controlled machine tools, including the implementation of corrections of programs; 
  • set the cutting conditions of the machine tool depending on the material and shape of the workpiece materials, tools, means of clamping tool and workpieces; 
  • identify appropriate kind and type of machines for production on the basis of working documents, conducting its overall adjustment, operation and routine maintenance.

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

The graduate is employed in the field of engineering and non-engineering businesses when turning, milling, grinding, drilling metal and other materials or machining them on CNC machines in manufacturing and repair facilities while performing specialized tasks related to the care and routine maintenance of machine tools.

Examples of possible jobs: metal turner, miller of metals, metal grinder, operator of CNC machines.
