3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective; 
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team; 
  • apply reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to evaluate texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at A2+ level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);  
  • apply basic scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development;  
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and simple models;   
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions;  
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy;   
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;   
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;   
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection. 

Vocational competences:

  • assemble, disassemble and repair machinery, machine equipment, and metal constructions; 
  • carry out minor repairs of replacement parts, even if this involves simple machining operations and heat treatment; 
  • inspect the technical condition of given equipment and ensure its operation; 
  • establish technological work processes in the repair of machinery and equipment; 
  • measure and inspect the performance parameters of machinery and equipment, perform functional tests, prepare protocols for these measurements and tests, and present users with repaired equipment; 
  • manage, monitor and inspect the performance of machinery and equipment; 
  • install machinery and equipment on site, start up machine operations and make necessary adjustments; 
  • keep prescribed documentation of the operation of equipment, its technical condition, defects, and repairs; 
  • produce drawings for the modification or manufacture of spare parts, propose suitable materials and semi-finished goods for such manufacture; 
  • work with engineering diagrams, schematics, standards, and other technical documentation; 
  • be prepared to take the exam covering the basic course in oxy-acetylene welding and the basic course in arc welding (with a coated electrode or a consumable electrode in an inert gas).

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

Graduates are employed in the field of mechanical engineering in the production and assembly of individual parts and complete assemblies of various machinery, equipment and structures, in their operational start up, routine maintenance, diagnostic testing of defects, and their repair. Graduates may also be employed in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment in non-engineering sectors.
Examples of possible job positions include: operational fitter and installer, machine fitter, building fitter, agricultural machinery fitter, mining fitter, fitter of rail structures and vehicles, steel structure installer, rotating equipment fitter, pipe and boiler installer, inspector of machined products.
