3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective;
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team;
  • apply advanced reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to critically evaluate and interpret texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and actively develop one’s own language skills;
  • apply scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely and at an advanced level with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development; 
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and models; 
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions, design data models and adapt interfaces to user needs; 
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy; 
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions;

  • choose optimal solutions in real-life work and personal situations based on the interconnection of environmental, economic and social factors;
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection.

Vocational competences:

  • exercise and organize treatment, reproduction, rearing, breeding and feeding of various species and categories of livestock, to ensure the protection of animals against cruelty; 
  • design and apply appropriate technological procedures for the breeding of different species and categories of animals; 
  • assess the microclimate of animal housing facilities, implement appropriate measures, and monitor zoohygienic conditions; 
  • assess the health status of animals, implement preventive measures, assist in veterinary procedures, and treat sick or injured animals under the supervision of a veterinarian; 
  • calculate and optimise feed rations using specialised software, evaluate feed quality, and ensure proper preservation and storage; 
  • obtain, store and keep animal products; 
  • in horse breeding, treat various categories of horses, prepare the feedstuffs, manage the health of horses, identify signs and causes of common diseases and provide the first aid, assist at veterinary interventions and treat horses according to the veterinarian´s instructions, ensure horse reproduction and foal caring, ride and drive horses, use the devices and equipment for horse riding and horse driving; 
  • in cynology (canine studies), ensure everyday care for dogs, breeding, reproduction and puppy caring in relation to their further use, care for canine health and carry out interventions which do not have to be performed by a veterinarian, select puppies for specialized training and prepare the dogs before the beginning of the basic training; ensure the training up to medium level of preparedness of the dog, assess the dog´s exterior, prepare the dog for a conformation show and show it; 
  • provide maintenance, repair and efficient use of agricultural machinery; 
  • assess the economic indicators of agricultural production, formulate opinions, deduce appropriate measures and use them for management, make out accounting documents.

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

Graduates may find employment in the agro-sector, including primary agricultural production, agricultural services, and rural development. Graduates specialising in horse breeding and riding may work primarily in sport, racing, and recreational riding, hippotherapy, agrotourism, forestry, enterprises using horse-drawn transport, breeding centres, riding schools, and other facilities focused on horse husbandry. Graduates specialising in cynology may engage in specialised dog training, work in breeding and canine advisory services, participate in therapy and assistance dog programmes, work in centres for training service, guide, assistance, and therapy dogs, and may further develop their careers as judges in dog performance and conformation.

Examples of possible job positions: livestock specialist, farmer, agricultural products trader, breeder, animal breeder, provider of agricultural services, machinery salesperson, agricultural entrepreneur, rider, horse breeder, cynology instructor, dog trainer, professional or recreational dog handler.
