3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective;
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team;
  • apply advanced reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to critically evaluate and interpret texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and actively develop one’s own language skills;
  • apply scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely and at an advanced level with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development; 
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and models; 
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions, design data models and adapt interfaces to user needs; 
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy; 
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions; 
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;  
  • choose optimal solutions in real-life work and personal situations based on the interconnection of environmental, economic and social factors;
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection.

Vocational competences:

  • prepare crop rotation plans, develop fertilisation and plant protection plans, and select and design technological procedures for cultivating field crops; 
  • perform and organise soil cultivation, pre-sowing preparation, fertilisation, sowing and planting, crop care during the growing season, harvest and post-harvest treatment of crops; 
  • implement preventive measures against diseases and pests of field crops, assess crop conditions, handle plant protection products, evaluate the effectiveness of agrotechnical interventions, and plan and organise subsequent measures; 
  • use plant protection products as a holder of a second-level professional competence certificate in accordance with applicable legislation; 
  • assess the microclimate of animal facilities and implement measures to ensure animal welfare and health; 
  • select and design technological procedures, perform and organise care, rearing, breeding and feeding of various animal species and categories, assess animal health, and ensure preventive measures; 
  • formulate feed rations, assess feed quality, and ensure feed conservation and storage; 
  • milk animals and treat milk after milking; 
  • store and manage supplies and materials for agricultural production, plant and animal products, and propose methods for their processing; 
  • design the composition of machinery and equipment for individual technologies, create organisational measures for their efficient use, monitor technical condition, and ensure maintenance and adjustment of mechanisation equipment used in plant and animal production; 
  • drive motor vehicles of categories T (tractor) and B (passenger car) and ensure their maintenance; 
  • manage a given agricultural production unit and keep relevant operational records;  
  • prepare cost calculations of products and services, and set prices; 
  • prepare accounting documents, keep tax records and accounting using information technology, and perform personnel management tasks including execution of employment contracts; 
  • manage the purchase of raw materials and agricultural products and their sale, and assess economic indicators of agricultural production.

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

Graduates may find employment in agricultural production, self-employment, agricultural services, agritourism,  processing and marketing of agricultural products, animal breeding, plant breeding and seed production companies, purchasing and trading organisations, economic departments of enterprises, public administration, landscape protection and creation, and services for rural development.

Examples of possible job positions: agricultural technician, agronomist, animal husbandry technician, farmer, agricultural entrepreneur, agricultural product trader, animal breeder, plant breeder, provider of agricultural services, agricultural equipment salesperson, rural development and agricultural services worker.
