3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
General competences:

General competences has been acquired under previous education.

Vocational competences:

  • have knowledge of art history, especially in relation to the development of artisan trades;
  • use basic artistic expressive techniques for work in the field;
  • read technical diagrams and shop drawings;
  • master traditional technological processes and techniques of artisan cabinetmaking or artisan woodcarving;
  • establish a schedule for completing individual phases of work and maintain conformity of individual stages of working with materials;
  • select suitable types of materials and aids to create specific products with appropriate functional and aesthetic parameters;
  • follow drawings, original patterns, or creative designs and use suitable technological processes and decorative techniques to create utility items made from wood in the given field of specialization, including surface finishes;
  • place emphasis on the aesthetic rendition of the final product and craftsmanship when performing artisan work;
  • apply relevant standards and regulations with regard to historical preservation;
  • carry out repairs and reconstruction of damaged portions of original works; apply appropriate measures of preservation;
  • prepare primary and secondary documentation for specific work;
  • care for and carry out routine maintenance of machinery, tools, and equipment.
 
4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE 
Graduate artisan cabinetmakers are employed to hand make individual cabinetry products based on custom designs, create replicas of period furniture and interior elements, and refurbish period furniture and interior furnishings.
Graduate artisan woodcarvers are employed to hand make utility and decorative items out of wood based on custom designs, replicas of original stylistic work, ornate woodwork and decorative interior elements, and to repair or refurbish such items.
Examples of possible job positions include: artisan cabinetmaker, artisan woodcarver.
